New Mexico

We spent 2 days driving across New Mexico. The road started going steadily up, and the landscape opened up into wide desert horizons. We even saw a few snow-capped mountains in the distance, though it was in the mid 60's to low 80's where we were.

We got to Albuquerque and visited the American International Rattlesnake Museum. Besides lots of live snakes, they had displays of snake oil, and snakes in popular culture.

The next day, we visited Petroglyph National Monument.

We drove on across NM, crossing the continental divide at 7225 feet above sea level. For miles and miles, we drove along a vertical wall of red, red sandstone. Our campground for the night was Red Rock Park, just outside of Gallup, and tucked right into that red sandstone cliff.
